You guys are idiots. If there was one team the Chargers were built and constructed to beat, it was the Colts. The management put the team together the way they did just to beat them. The Chargers frontline pressure combined with the fact that they had a better offense than the Bears and Ravens, would have given them the edge over the Colts.
Not to mention that Tomlinson would have run over that defense.

The "What if" game can be spun many ways on this topic, but i believe that the Chargers would have been champions had they not given the game away to New England. Although Indinanapolis' defense turned the corner in the playoffs, there was no way they could have completely contained LaDainain Tomlinson. He's equally as lethal at running the football and catching the football, unlike Larry Johnson and Jamal Lewis were one dimensional at just running. Phillip Rivers was playing pretty decent against the New England defense, and if he had the opportunity to go up against Indy's, it would have been nothing remotely like what New England threw at him. The front seven of the Chargers would have mauled the colts offensive line due to the overwhelming pressure they bring. Everyone saw how it affected Brady, and it would have been a bear repeat against Peyton Manning. Granted that Manning would have gotten a few passes off, and with a young, suspect safety tandem for San Diego, he could have connected on a few passes, but the pressure would overwhelm them more often than they could call effective plays.
And as for the NFC against the Chargers....well lets say there not quite there. Bottom Line is last year was the chargers year to win it all, but small mistakes like the fumbled interception cost them their chance, and now brought up this "What if" question.

maybe if Marty was still coach, but the new coach sucks so the chargers are going nowhere. they aren't going to completely suck, they have too much talent, but they wont be as good as they were last year for a while.
oh wait i just read the question again. and yea i think the chargers would have been the champs

Yes, the Colts would have been blown out in San Diego and LT would have been unstoppablem but the infamous "if" is what starts your question.
Same as last year, the Steelers never would have beaten the Patriots in New England, but they were able to get by Denver who beat a Patriots team they should have lost to.

Man you can what if this thing to death. Yea, the Chargers I believe would have beat the Colts, but if Baltimore had beaten the Colts, then they would have won, or maybe if Oakland.....nah you cant even what if it with Oakland.
