I have a game that I like to play and I was able to start my own server and have my friend join on my server. Now I got a wireless router so my upstairs pc could get internet, that works. However when i start my game on the wirelessly connected computer and I start my own server my friend can't join. I can join others games fine but I can't join his and he can't join mine, he is using a laptop connected via router too. It doesn't only happen with the game either anything that we try to connect via ip address we can't am I giving the wrong ip address or whats going on here?

Your router is blocking connections from the internet side and so is your friends. That is what they are designed to do.

You will need to configure the router to allow traffic to your server. To do this log into the routers settings and place the IP of the computer running the server in the DMZ of the router. This will allow others on the internet side to see that server.

Most problems by wireless routers are solved by changing the channel from the default channel 6 to any other channel ( start 1 or 11)
( interference from neighbours routers also set on defaults)
also try changing ssid'
If something in the router is blocking at the worst you can set up the dmz for your computer (However your computer is wide open)

Try running the game over a hamachi vpn
free
fast
easy set up
secure
