i bought a brand new battery today...55 u.s.$'s. put it in my camaro and started it a few times, then nothing.....so i looked at the battery and the + side was melted.....WHY DID THIS HAPPEN??

Eather a battery with a shorted cell or the alt voltage got to high.Eather problem would have caused this to happen.

The charging system gone bad. Try trace cables back to alternator to pinpoint the problem. There must be a reason for your first battery gone bad.

try to replace new battery cables
