Buying a motorcycle in USA is easy and getting it into Canada is not very difficult, but there is still no simple answer, as what has to be done varies considerably with the make, model and year of motorcycle.

Some motorcycle brands are OK to import, but some models in the range are forbidden.

Plan on carrying it on a trailer as the Border process can take two days or more and you may not be allowed to ride the bike in Canada until it is modified to meet the government standards set for your bike.

Generally, you have to have the bike inspected by US authorities at the Border prior to export.

You apply for an import permit from Canada, giving the year, make, model, odometer reading, and then you will have to have it inspected by Canadian authorities as soon as it enters Canada. Once allowed in, you must have it inspected and certified by a Canadian mechanic before it can be licensed.

The bike must match Canadian requirements, such as having a speedometer that reads in metric/kilometres, and meets fuel/exhaust emission standards.

You can get most of what you need to know, including a list of what is permissible and what is prohibited, at this site:

http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/impusae.htm

It is best that you review the site BEFORE buying anything, and avoid a problem or even a refusal when you reach Customs.
.
A Customs refusal is VERY bad news: if the bike is refused entry by Canada Customs, then there is a high probability that Canada Customs will take the bike from you and destroy it.

Learn as much as you possibly can before you try to import it.

Is this a new bike? If it is you may have to buy it in Canada. The manufacturers may have deals in place with distributors to prevent cross border shopping. Otherwise it would have much the same restrictions as buying a car in from the US.
