It;s not the best situation for the gourami, but it's possible provided a few other things are there. One, he will need a warm spot for the bowl. If the temperature of the bowl drops below about 72 he will really suffer. Second, you must be willing to change the water in the bowl every 2-3 days to keep it clean.

Unless you have a filter, heater and a bigger tank your fish will probably die. Dwarf are quite hardy, but they won't be hardy enough to go in a 2 and 1/2 gallon bowl.

Keeping fish you should always provide the following as a bare minimum;

1. Biggest tank you can afford/accommodate - The bigger the tank the better. I'd say at least 10 gallons for any fish setup. Anything smaller, and it's just cruel.

2. Heater - You definitely need a heater. Gouramis's are tropical fish and will need a minimum temperature of about 76oC. Check this though on the link I've put at the bottom of this answer.

3. Filter - You need this so that all the fish waste is broken down by friendly bacteria (n.b. most waste is broken down by the bacteria, the other waste is removed when you do weekly water changes)

4. Light - Optional, brings out the colours in the fish.

No, you need at least a 5 gallon tank with a heater.

Nope. They are sensitive to water conditions and need a heated aquarium with good filtration. 2 1/2 gallons is not big enough either.

keep him warm and clean if you don't have a filter and heater. he would also be a great start to a small 10 gallon community aquarium if and when you decide you want something bigger.
