I have to read stargirl over the summer and do a lot of projects. I read a short description it and I really do not find it fascinating because it is similar to other books I also had to read. I am a straight A (weak in reading but still manage to get A's) 12 year old boy gong into 7th grade. Do you think I will lke it? Will it take a long time to read?

It should be a good book for a 7th grader. What it is dealing with is the idea that sometimes being different can be immensely attractive.

In a sense this book is propaganda, it's trying to suggest that StarGirl Caraway, through being so different, is able to achieve greatness by being who she is. It's built upon the premise that students going into Junior High all have self-esteem issues and all crave "being alike" so they won't stand out or be different. This is sort of typical early 21st century brainwashing to try and get everyone to be different, but different in the same ways. It's superficial and doesn't touch what is necessary, a basic change in our hearts.

Still, it is a likable book and yes, I think you will like it. Just keep it in perspective of what it is.
