Would somebody please tell me who or what "EMO" is?? I know I'm old, but I didn't think I was that old!!

"Emo" stands for emotional. Some people say anybody that's emo is gothic, but whinier. Usually they sway their hair to the side and listen to whiney and/or screamy music. Hopefully that helps =]

Emo used to mean emotive hardcore, which was a music genre.

It somehow turned into a stereotypical label that involves someone with long side bangs, cuts their wrists, and whine about life. And they're a "cheap imitation of goth." Don't ever think those kind of people are emo. That's stereotypically speaking, and they're just people...but not emo.

Normally, you'd use "emo" short for emotional about everything...but everyone's emo at one point in their lives. It's a lame term, when you think about it.

emo kids dont always cut themselveds, commit suicide, or become gay. they are depressed and usually hated by a lot of people. they usually wear eyeliner, eyeshadow, tight jeans, dark clothes, converse, and are misunderstood. everyone has a way of expressing their emotions, and emo kids do this by writing poetry, sometimes inflicting pain on themselves, and of course, crying and screaming. they do look a lot like goth. their hair is usually black/dark brown with colors in it (red, blonde, etc), and the style usually has a lot of angles in it.
