Go to best buy or another computer store and ask for a 512 or 1024 mb ram card, be sure to tell them your computers model number to get the right ram card and also some computers can handle more ram than they're made for. I have an old computer and it can't even have 512, we were only able to put 256 so we just bought a new computer with 1536.

Thats probable a reasonably sturdy guess. you will possibly prefer to look in job supervisor (alt+ctrl+del) to be certain how lots reminiscence each and every of those classes is making use of. a number of them won't additionally be working interior the history. An multi function (antivirus, and so on) isn't unavoidably extra useful, and would take up basically as lots reminiscence. One decision is to continually improve your ram in the journey that your classes use too lots. interior the top, its is probable ultimate to have an anti virus and firewall, undercover agent ware non-obligatory, or atleast in basic terms to run each and every now and than. For low reminiscence utilization classes i exploit AVG unfastened version, zoneAlarm unfastened version, and living house windows defender. wish that enables, you do no longer want better than of any software aside from consistent with possibility undercover agent ware to capture distinctive threats.

start->Run taskmgr.exe
Look at the processes tab
if you click the processor column twice it will show what is using the most at that point in time. This should give you some idea of what is causing the slowdown.
You may then have some idea of what you can do to fix the problem

Have you tried removing your temp files? Temp files are back-up files of different programs on your computer that are either saved whenever a program crashed or deemed unnecessary whenever a program closes properly. Usually these are backup files from Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, etc.) and Graphic-intensive programs (i.e.: PC games, Photoshop, etc). Too much of these files take up needed memory space and will affect its performance, but you can remove them without affecting other programs. Here's how to do it:

> open Windows Explorer and click "Search" on the toolbar
> click on "All files and folders" on the dialog box.
> Type in "*.tmp" in the space box "All or part of the file name"
> In the "Look in" options box, select "Local Hard Drives"
> Click on "More Advanced Options", and several options will appear
> Two options are automatically selected, "Search System Folders" and "Search Subfolders". Select the option "Search Hidden files and folders" (since the Temp files folder will be a hidden folder in XP) and leave the other options unselected.
> click "Search"

Afterwards, all of the temp files will appear. You can safely delete these files without affecting other programs and, hopefully, your computer will run faster.

Also, try removing your Temporary Internet files. These are files store in your computer to help speed up the opening of your favorite sites. To remove them, go to Control Panel and look for "Internet Options". Click on this and a dialog box will appear, and on it select "Delete files". Another dialog box will appear asking if you would like to delete offline content (gif files, jpegs, HTML code, etc, of previously visited websites so you can check them out again even if you're offline). Click on this as well if you really need to free up some memory, and click "OK". Note this may take awhile if you haven't done this for some time. Use this time to rest your eyes or take a break from your work.

Let me know if this helps.

You may have more than one program running in the background. Sometimes these programs that you may have set to run automatically can slow your PC to a crawl at times.
