got one for christmas a nice brothers scared to try it.what can i do

Follow the instruction manual for threading the machine. It's very important! Can you find a beginner class at your local sewing shop or adult ed? If not, just stick two layers of material in there, drop the presser foot (in the manual), grab your thread tails, and sew away! Guide the material through, but don't push or pull.

A book like "sewing for dummies" is excellent too. Your library might have it.

I really cannot stress enough the importance of the manual. Read it through and through.

The advice above is great. Additionally... I have both a brother and a Janome. The best advice is "DONT CHANGE THE TENSION" and "MAKE SURE YOU USE THE RIGHT SIZE BOBBIN"

Otherwise... I agree, stick to pieces of fabric together and give it a try.
