When I push the start button on my dryer, it makes a sound like it is trying to start, but the drum won't start turning. Any ideas?

Your belt is bad or the motor is out.
Here is a good site for tips and parts. This is the least expensive online parts store I've found:

Grew up with electric dryer and range, mom still uses electric. For the last 30 years I have used gas appliances and will never switch back to electric. Gas is much better for cooking more control of heat. Gas dryer is more efficient. We too live in Michigan. You could check with the gas/electric company for your area and ask them which is cheaper.

That sucks. Just get a clothes line and clothes pins and hang them outside in the fresh summer air. They'll be crisp and dry in a few hours. Make sure they're in the shade if you don't want the colors to fade. It's old fashioned, but better than nothing. Good luck.

It sounds as the belt might be broke. You can open one side and check it out. They are easy to change if needed. The belt looks almost like the belt from a car, just thinner. Usually they cost below $10.- or so.

Might be time for replacement. Your better off replacing it because a repairman will charge you at least half of what a new one will cost if not more. Go to Home Depot, order one and have them deliver it. They will take the old one with them.

unplug it.... take off the back cover.... plug it back in...... and turn it on, staying clear of all moving parts, any hot pipes or anything electrical ,and giving yourself plenty of room to work... grab a flashlight and see if there is anything obvious like a stripped gear or a broken belt
