A NZ fast bowler died after being hit by a ball during a test match in the 70's (batting, no helmets), he was revived (thankfully) on the field, and survived with no problems

Of course people have died playing cricket, heart attacks happen, I think someone in England last year had a heart attack on the field in a local cricket match.
