Figures are lengths of general outline of seacoast. This does not include freshwater coastlines. Measurements are made with unit measure of 30 minutes of latitude on charts as near scale of 1:1,200,000 as possible. Coastline of bays and sounds is included to point where they narrow to width of unit measure, and distance across at such point is included.

I read a book about a man traveling the whole eastern coastline, starting in Maine. He claimed it had the longest shoreline if you added followed every cape, spit, bay, or any other convexity or concavity. But likely he meant Maine had the longest shoreline on in the east. Alaska wins by a long margin.

It is Michigan because of the coastline around the lake.

I should add that that is a freshwater coastline but it is in fact the longest US coastline for a state. If you are looking for the longest saltwater costline that would be Alaska. I lost this to a trivia game once because I am in California and I naturally thought of the ocean and never considered the great lakes actually have coastlines.
