They don't have to pay the mechanic , you do ! Those pads don't last even close to the life of a raybestos pad . I had some on a jeep a few years ago that lasted about 2 months before the brake material just crumbled and fell off . It scarred my rotors just getting home . Guess who had to pay for the rotors ! Me ! Get the good brake pads ! It's not worth the hassle to buy that auto zone and advance auto junk .

Most people only own their vehicles for an average of 2-5 years, many new vehicles having a 5 year warranty. Brake pads have an average (normal use) life of 2-3 years. The math has shown that most people will not have the same vehicle before the brakes wear out again, so the store has a slim chance of needing to fulfill a warranty. Also, the warranty is usually provided by the manufacturer, not the distributor. When you return your worn or faulty breaks, the store is then refunded by the manufacturer for the total cost of warranty replacements. And on that note, the cost of manufacturing the breaks vs the price they are sold to the distributor at offsets the costs of the low percentage of warranty replacements they end up fulfilling. Most industry today is that way, the products being manufactured for pennies on the dollar, so most manufacturers can afford some losses in product replacements. Hope this answers your question!

The comments on here reek of lack of information. Lifetime warranty is against defects only. Raybestos, quite frankly, has gone downhill in quality and many shops are staying away from their product. Carquest stopped carrying Raybestos pads, because of the issues they were having with them. Folks, there is absolutely no such thing as a lifetime replacement pad, period. Shops offer that, because with the volume they buy from parts stores, the parts stores are willing to give them free pads as an incentive for buying from them. The only way you'll get a set of pads replaced is if you manipulate the system and throw a fit or if the associate simply doesn't know what they're doing. Advance Auto Parts Wearever pads are very good and rate better for noise than Wagner Thermoquiets. I personally prefer Bendix, but in a pinch would use Advance Auto pads in a heartbeat. Auto Zone brand selection over all is not that great and most professional shops will not use Auto Zone. Having said that, their Duralast line of brake pads is a good pad. Vehicle ownership is a responsibility and an expense. Accept it and move on. Educate yourself and understand your vehicle. Quite frankly, some pads work better on some vehicles and not as well on others. Do your research and find out which pad will work well for you. I like Bendix, because their braking distance is one of the best in the industry and I've never had a noise issue. Again, there is no such thing as a lifetime replacement brake pad. If you don't believe me, call you local parts stores.

They're betting on the customer NOT trading them in when they wear out (forgetting), or not having the same car long enough to use the return. Autozone has everything computerized, so you have to get the same brake pads each time to use the warranty. And yes, if EVERYONE used the warranty, they would lose money!

Lifetime warranty does NOT apply to normal wear and tear.
That's how Autozone Rep explained to me. Read the fine print.

they can do that because brake pads are cheap. the warranty doesn't say anything about free labor or other parts you may need in the future. that's where they get you. you go back for the free pads and they still charge you for labor and any other part you may need and believe me you will at a higher mark up to help pay for your free pads.
