Do you think having a lame duck president, especially one lacking popular support, is a flaw in the way our goverment was designed? Other governments have a parliamentary mechanism for calling for elections for executives lacking the support of the people.

A person; apparently it's you who don't understand. If you had read the question you would know that I wasn't talking about tyranny of the legislature, I was talking about popular support of the citizenry.

this question reminds me of tom clancy's The Sum Of All Fears. But our system is not flawed. More often than not, the other systems which dissolve parliament and call for reelections lead to chaos. Eventually, a coup happens and some crazy party takes control of the government. Our country is designed for this never to happen. Low approval ratings are a small price to pay compared to a lame duck president. Neither would be great but that is simply not possible.

Ever heard of checks and balances? I did, but apparantly you do not understand. The US system was designed to provide checks and balances at every turn. The reason that it is not ok to oust a president just because his party is no longer part of the parlimentary majority is that would provide a 'tyranny' of the legislature. The system doesn't work all the time, but it does most of the time. A 'lame duck' president was elected by the people, they are free to choose another one at the next election.

Well when the chimp's presidency first started, the people were distrustful - enough to not allow him to walk to the White House without incident. Is it a flaw? No, because the people have run out of support for this moron!

Change histerm from 2- 4 years terms , max, to one term, like the Queen. One term, lasting the rest of his life. Now be quiet,Ted Kennedy may be listening.

It works the way it was designed to: an unpopular office-holder can do little damage on the way out -- unless he pardons a bunch of criminals who just happen to be his friends and contributors, like Clinton did.
