He would be just as effective as he's so much bigger and stronger than his opponents and would be even more so back then. But his team wouldn't stand a chance back in that era because Bird & Magic's teams were much deeper and talented. Expansion has diluted the talent base in the NBA, so teams can't have 6-8 good players like those teams did. Now you're lucky to have 3-4 good players.

Absolutely in my mind, and maybe even more effective. I'm of the mindset that the league is actually more competitive than it was 20 years ago. I think there's far more depth that has to do with 3 things. 1) technology, better nutrition, exercise, supplements, etc. 2) more knowledge about the game, and 3) much more competition, much of which comes from the international scene.

For this reason I think he'd easily be as effective then as he is now.

Air Jordan, Magic and Basketball Jesus. those adult adult males have been greater desirable teammates and can be powerful enjoying off the ball. Lebron, Kobe and Wade are super on the ball offensively yet none are organic spot up shooters (which makes fowl a extensive asset). i think of top Magic ought to D up Lebron, MJ's greater advantageous athleticism might make it hard for Kobe and fowl might conflict to maintain DWade in front of him, yet ought to play some ft off him and enable DWade attempt to win it from exterior. On D, basically Kobe is a stable defender and he can not cover all 3 of them.

He would be just as effective, but his team would get demolished - probably wouldn't make the playoffs in that bad-*** Eastern Conference of the 80's.
