I have a Corn snake, age and sex unknown (it was a stray if you can believe that!) but it is an adult, about 4 1/2 feet long, and I've had it for about 3 years now. It has always been quite healthy and friendly, but last week I noticed an odd behavior. The snake was moving in fast circles on top of itself and pulsing. It stopped after an hour or so and hasn't done it since or acted weird in any other ways, so I assumed there was nothing wrong with it, but I am curious if anyone knows what was going on?

By pulsing, as it was moving in circles, it would stop, go, stop go, and you could see its muscles contracting and relaxing all along its body. We do have a dog, but the snake is not afraid of the dog (or anything in the house really) and nothing new of note which could have frightened it.
Is it possible it was trying to mate with itself? I have no idea what snake mating behavior looks like.
