There is a pair of musicians (2) that goes by the name of "Nox Arcana" (http://www.noxarcana.com) who put out very eerie and haunting music for subjects like:

Haunted Carnivals - the piece "Calliope" is an excellent one!

Transylvania

Winter's Knight

Necronomicon - "The Old Ones" is a terrific piece too!

and more. They also are the part of the pair that has another set of CD's out of eerie music called "Midnight Syndicate" (http://www.midnightsyndicate.com) with music about many different spooky types of settings. One of my favorits is called "The Thirteenth Hour" another is the soundtrack they did for the role playing game "Dungeons and Dragons" - the 'March of the Dead' is a particularly good piece.

Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven sounds eerie not because of the "backmasking", but because any song sounds eerie when you listen to it backwords... especially at night.

The Beatles - #9 freaked me out the first time I heard it. I think it was the baby crying randomly... at least I think it was a baby, I really don't know what was.
