well

12 students ------ 45/360 = 1/8

it shows that 1/8 of the whole chart is 12 students

total no in the survery is 12*8 = 96 students

if you want to find tv3

first you see the fraction it occupies, which is 120/360=1/3

if you know 96 students participated

1/3 of 96 is 32 students

thus 32 students gave their reply as tv3

hope that helps!

It took me a while to figure out you're talking about pie charts!! Should've mentioned that! Anyway, the sum total of degrees in a circle is 360, so that must be proportional to the total number of students. Hence, if 45 degrees mean 12 students, 360 degrees mean 96 total students.
Similarly, 360/3 = 120, so 96/3 = 32 students chose tv3.

Presumably these "degrees" refer to sectors on a pie chart.

Let x be the total number of students surveyed.
rte2: 45 degrees
A full circle has 360 degrees

So rte2 has the support of (45/360 )*x
(45/360)*x = 12
x = 12*(360/45) = 12*8 = 96

96 students were surveyed.

As for tv3... (120/360)*96 = (1/3)*96 = 32.
32 students gave tv3 as their reply.

Hope that helps!

45 degrees is 1/8 of a circle, so 12 people is 1/8th of the total
