My current pick is Stanley Kubrick... and I haven't seen all of his films yet, but what I have seen is simply spectacular.
2001 was my favourite... only a small percentage of people are lucky enough to really feel this movie, and I count myself among them. Also Clockwork Orange was awesome, and The Shining the the best psychological thriller I've seen.
Apart from Kubrick I loved: Taxi Driver (Scorescese), Shindlers List (Speilburg), Reservoir Dogs (Quentine Tarrantino), Vertigo (Hitchcock).

Hitchcock. He was able to portray horror and suspense without using all the gore they use in todays films.

Here is my top 10 I have Kurick a lot lower but some of these other directors are just amazing. Shymalan for example did an amazing job with Sixth Sense and Peter Jackson with the new King Kong and Lord of the Rings. Also some have comedic talents that are on a different level of other comedic films. Anyhow enough of the explanations here is my list.
