changed this world? There's so many more murder's, kidnappings, and rapists. There's more poverty and sad people. My mom said that in the 50's, things were so much different. All of these things didn't happen, and if they did, it wasn't often. What do you think changed everything?

In the 50's the family was the center of everything. Families were closer and children and teenagers were taught morals, values, respect for others and to honor commitment when you make one. Now, there's a 50% divorce rate and families are so busy that they rarely are all together at the same time. Kids are growing up faster and seem sort of lost these days. Also the advertising and the media are much different. We have more media coverage on murders and crimes all around the country and the media has given us a false take on what 's important and what we "should " have to be successful. I would love to be living in the 50's when life was simpler and families stayed together.

in the 1950's for the most part women didn't work, they stayed at home and raised their children, while, I might add, the husband worked sometimes 2 or 3 jobs to provide for the family. Yes there were things like gays (who stayed in the closet), there was a lower population so our jails weren't full but if you did genealogy you would find a lot of people were in sanitariums and jails. Women were sent to the sanitariums over minor female problems. The things did happen back in the 1950's it's just that we didn't have the computers (where news is immediately transmitted and discussed and responses determined quickly or prejudices made immediately) but there was neighborhood chit-chat and the telephone which was a tad slower, but all those things did happen, some things were kept within the families because of embarrassment. There were more morals back then and people weren't out as much to ruin each other but it was nationalities against nationalities, and there was much more church attendance then. In talking with other people doing genealogy (which I do) I can tell you that there were a lot of rapes but women didn't talk about that and husbands took care of the matter but then later divorces happened. I was always told in my family that divorces didn't happen but I found that not to be true either. I think each generation is the same, it's merely what gets exposed and how it is exposed that makes the difference.

People are taught less morals, values and TV has now become the babysitter as well as violent video games, negative images on MTV/BET.
People are not being held accountable for their actions (Paris Hilton..prime example)
Kids are exposed 2 negative and sexual images on computer and radio.
The country itself is encouraging violence...war for instance!
They took prayer out the classrooms!
The children are having children.
