Octane. Higher octane will burn hotter and cleaner.I find I get better milage with higher octane.

That depends on your car. Modern cars have knock sensors that retard the timing when it senses pre-ignition, or "ping". Putting super in your tank may let the ignition go to full advance and run faster and more economical.

Octane is the rating of fuel that equates to how fast the fuel burns. The higher the octane the slower it burns to avoid 'pinging'. It also allows you to run more initial spark advance which will give you better performance up to a point.

If it is an older car with no computer or an earlier less evolved computer then your car will not burn all the high octane fuel that is ingested into the cylinders, unless you advance the timing to match the octane of the gas. Then you are just polluting more and not going any faster.

Electric cars are much cleaner for several reasons. Here's why coal doesn't matter: * Electricity is NOT made mostly from coal, no matter how many times you might read this. Only about a third of electricity is still made from coal in the US (see sources below.) The proportion has been steadily decreasing for years. The rest of the electrical capacity comes from natural gas, hydro, wind, solar, nuclear etc (oil isn't used anymore to make electricity, it's too expensive.) All of these other sources are much, much cleaner than petroleum. * Coal power is "baseload". Coal electricity plants can't adjust quickly enough to track changing loads, so they are designed to run at 100% output all the time. As electric demand changes throughout the day, other types of plants start and stop - the coal electricity stays steady. So plugging in electric cars doesn't change the amount of coal pollution - because you can't run a plant harder than 100%. * Gasoline needs electricity, too. Huge amounts of electricity, and other fossil fuel, is used during the very energy-intensive refining process that turns oil into gasoline. It takes more energy just to MAKE gasoline, mile for mile, than electric cars use. Electric cars just need electricity - gas cars need BOTH electricity and petroleum.

Premium gas has a higher octane rating. That means is resists detonation (engine knocking or pinging) better. Car manufacturers will recommend it for cars that have higher performance engines because they have higher compression and are more prone to knock. If it is recommended for your car, you should use it or your car's computer will back off the timing and you will lose some power.

If it is not recommended for your car, it is a waste of money.

over the years I have found that most European cars may require a higher octane fuel like super or mid grade but almost all American cars get by on regular unless you have a American sports car (Vette,Viper) best thing to do is research your particular car and they will tell you the recommended fuel octane

Very few modern cars need Super Gas.
It has a higher octane level & costs more.
Some people try a tankful to clean their engine.
It burns hotter & removes engine deposits.

reg has less octane and super has more which will burn hotter and faster and can make your car run better and if you always buy the cheapest gas (reg) at whatever gas station, it can get buildup in your engine after time

The super has a higher octane than the regular. If your car is not designed to require the super, all you're doing is flushing your money down the toilet. Any improved mileage you're getting is being offset by the extra cost of the fuel.

super gas has additives in it to improve starting and acceleration

you will probably never feel a difference, but you could see and increase in fuel mileage.
