You need to face your fears while they are small. By avoiding you are reinforcing that what you fear is real, and it becomes ingrained.

I think of my fear as a lion. The fear starts out as a cub, tiny and weak, no real threat. Through avoidance I feed that cub, keeping it with me. It gets bigger and bigger, stronger, and more aggressive. The more time that passes the harder the fear is to control.

By facing your fears and not avoiding the situation you are not allowing the fear to grow and take over.

As one who has suffered from anxiety/panic attacks in the past, I have to say this: True panic attacks and anxiety attacks are NOT caused by stress, but in fact, are biological in nature. We have very little control over them as far as stopping them before they begin. We can however, reduce the length of the attack as well as the symptoms....

Back to the fear issues... they can not be worked out over night... they have to be worked on... until they are not done away with as much as they are managed... and again, it takes time... It took me 40 years...

I cast all my fears away... I do this by naming them all and giving them to the Lord. Since I'm a believer it works for me... but for those who are not believers...you could write them down and burn um up... or rip em up and throw them into the trash! Either way none of us need them...they hold us back from being our best! Oh yes, and some are meant to be faced and conquered!

I have a hard time controlling them. I try to "self talk" and tell myself that everything is ok and I'm too strong to give into those feelings.
