You may have already heard this but; free your computer of spyware. ad-aware (free personal version) is good for this. Also I use the yahoo toolbar antispy software to check for it as well. You can also set how long to keep history pages at 1 or 2 days. Delete temporary internet files regularly. For both of these go to Start ,right click internet explorer, then click internet properties and you will see how to do this. You can defrag your hard drive, this takes a while though. These are some of the small things that can help your speed somewhat. You can also download AVG antivirus or Avast antivirus for free, if you do not have one already.

Are you using XP or Vista? The above specs will be slow on Vista but ok on XP. Increasing the RAM always helps. As the saying goes, buy as much RAM as you can afford. It helps compensate slowness of any processor.

If you have installed a lot of programs through time it will slow down your PC as well. Consider reformat and reinstall your XP and your PC will be like new again. I do that every year as part of spring cleaning to keep my PC in tip top shape.

You should uninstall any programs you no longer need or are not using. Also, check to see what programs are running in the background and when at startup. Click on Start, then startup. If you see any programs there that don't need to be running at startup then it's safe to delete the icon.

Look at the bottom right of your screen; if you see a lot of icons there and don't really need them, then it's safe to delete those as well or exit those programs.

You can also download free memory managers. You can do a search for them on Yahoo or Google. I've found that ashampoo works very well for me but it's a paid program.

1.Defrag your hard drive. your hard disk may be big enough but if files are fragmented, it takes quite a bit of time for the computer to compile the fragmented data. For this open my computer and right click on each of the partitions and select defrag. 2. Put all programmes - especially programmes like photoshop which take up a lot of disk space for running -other than the operating system and office on another drive. Let the root drive be for the exclusive use of operating system. 3. 256 MB RAM is good enough but you have to periodically free memory by saving your work. In this way you send the data to hard disk and free RAM.

buy an old 386 or 486 or Pentium 133, and try that out; then say yours is slow.

All kidding aside my serious answer is:
PC Pitstop Optimize,
and a good anti virus like Stopsign, or Norton.
