Ballzy, I enjoy your answers to questions and you are usually right on the money, but not this time. The National league not wanting the DH has nothing to do with extra salary. Isn't it possible they don't want to break with tradition? There is more to baseball than just hitting and I never liked the DH. As far as attendance, MLB has set records each of the past three years from 73 million in 2004, to 74 million in 2005, and 76 million last year. For the first time the National league had six teams break the 3 million mark in attendance last year. Rather than force the DH on the National League, why don't we remove it from the American League? I am going to give you a star just because you always keep us thinking.

I'm a fan of the A.L. so of course I love the DH and wish the N.L. would use one as well. A pitcher can't really do much for you when he's at the plate. Runners on base with 2 outs and pitcher is batting? That's a sure out, unless he's one of the few who have a hit every now and then. But I'm all for adding the DH to the N.L.

While I think there is some truth to the owners not wanting to have to pay for another fulltime (theoretically) position, the biggest reason is that not everyone is convinced that the DH is good for baseball.
There is no proof that having an extra hitter for the NL would bring in additional revenue for anyone. Even with a DH, people aren't going to come to Pittsburgh. Do you really think that the DH is helping pull in millions of fans in Kansas City or even Minnesota? Not really. An overall good team is what draws the fans in (unless your the Cubs).

I would have to say that would be a big joke. I am a baseball lover and the A.L. is not baseball. The N.L. is a much harder league. Your managers in the nl really have to think, where in the al all they do is decide when to change a pitcher. It has nothing to do with money. It is all about keeping the game the way it is supposed to be played. With the Dh you lose a big part of the game "Small Ball"

The current DH rule sucks. The NL still plays baseball. It's not more fun to see some gloveless wonder bat .260 as a DH, but it is fun to see double switches, pitcher hits, and the old 'pay back' when a hurler gets silly.
Now, a designated PINCH hitter. . .that might work for both leagues and would leave the game in the game.

Come on While the other team is batting, the DH sits on his rear end and the rest of his teammates have to go to work.
A DH is a one dimensional player, he cannot pitch or field.
The money is better spent on a player who knows what to do with a glove.

Or maybe the NL owners want to play the game of baseball the way it was invented, with pitchers batting, managers playing hit and run, stealing bases, playing small ball, instead of waiting for a 4 run homer.

i wouldnt mind the DH in the NL, in fact i like that idea. but maybe they want to keep the tradition from the early days of baseball when the pitchers were batters too.

Im from the AL fan, so im with you.It would be more fun having a DH at bat, For instance, imagine bases loaded with 2 outs and your pitcher is next at bat, wouldn't you rather expect a hit instead of a dead out.
i mean, i used to pitch in high school and wanted to bat too, but we're talking about MLB.
just my opinion

because it isn't fair that just because the pitcher pitches, he doesn't have to bat. What if a guy makes a diving catch? Does he not have to bat? Or if a guy hits a homerun. Does he not have to field? Plus, it would be really cool to see a pitcher hit a HR.
