I just finished my freshman year in High School and I want to start cheerleading my sophomore year. What do I need to do? Do you think it's too late to try out? Is it bad to go and try out if you've never had any experience?

Its not bad to try out, you may have hidden talent you didn't know you had.

Since its summer break find a cheerleader and ask her to teach you how to do basic cheers and jumps!

That way when tryouts are here, you wont feel "inexperienced".

When I was a in high school (ages ago I graduated 2001) Our cheerleading tryouts were a few weeks before school started, so depending on your school, you may have time.

This looks like a good beginning but you have a lot more to do. The story seems to be moving really quickly maybe you could have Mike Bruno come in at the middle of the year to have it move at a more realistic speed. It also makes Jessica seem a bit pathetic if she is constantly thinking about him for nine years so you could make it seem like she has moved on or at least tries and is probably in a relationship for a couple of years by then and shes beginning to fall for this new guy until that little boy comes into her classroom and he reminds her of him and she begins to question herself and her past decisions and love. Make sure you make it realistic and not all realistic stories end well some do and some don't. Make the story appeal to your readers because if you don't do that then the story will not reach out to anyone and most people won't want to read it. Most of all don't lose your writers voice while trying to appeal to readers and have fun. Hope this helped. Enjoy!!!

It's not too late to try-out at all.
I was a dancer for many years then in College I tried out for cheerleading. I thought that it was too late for me... but guess what...I made it!
If you haven't missed the try-outs yet, I would look into either some cheer classes this summer. Or get with a friend that has cheered before and work on some of the basics.
Good Luck!

No. You can always try new things. This year I'm going to be trying out for cheerleading too, I've never had any experience, and I'll be a Junior. I had a friend last year who tried out, had no previous cheering or gymnastics experience, and believe it or not, she made it!! So no it's never too late and if you practice hard and know the cheers when you try out, you have a really good chance of making it. And don't forget to smile! =) Good luck! Hope this helps!

I think you should definately try-out! I tried-out in middle school-I didn't make the cut but the experience was so much fun! I'm not sure cheerleading was really what I wanted. Maybe just being with my friends in a dance class who have filled the void. Ask yourself why you want to be a cheerleader and you might find that cheerleading is not only one way to reach your goal. In high school I was able to be a mascot for a while! Definately try out!

Look into seeing if there's any competitive cheer teams in your area. I'd give the coaches a call and ask if you can sit in and watch a practice or two to give you a feel of what you're getting yourself into.
And definately ask for pointers. Don't be shy about approaching the older girls - most people are more than willing to help out beginners....and if they're not, I wouldn't want to be on that team anyway! Just be yourself and I'm sure you'll get plenty of support.

If in the event that you don't make the team, consider asking if you can be their manager just to help out. If the coaches/other cheerleaders see you're dedicated, they might let you on the next year.
Good luck!

If tryouts aren't until late summer or fall you have time to get started learning what to do. And you might have a chance to go to camp with the team so check with your coaches. Start conditioning and stretching, work on snapping motions, learning 8 counts of dance, jumping, and doing back handspring drills. All of this will put you in a better position for trying out later on.

This is a good starting point: http://geocities.com/aescougarcheer/basics.htm

Hmm. Many cheerleaders have been cheering for atleast a few years, do you have ANY experiance in cheering? At my high school cheering was a BIG thing and many people on the squad had been cheering for atleast a few years and was very competitive.

i depends on when tryouts are/were... ours are at the end of the school year so you may have already missed them. If not, you should take a class at a local competitive chree place (like capital or cheer station, it varies depending on where you live) also work on tumbling.
Best of luck
