I want to test the pewter I used in my home for lead content.

Dissolve some of the pewter in dilute nitric acid.
Then to a sample of the solution add potassium iodided solution. If there was lead in the pewter, you will get a distinctive yellow precipitate of lead iodide, PbI2.
