What is the big whoop about Roger Clemens return. So the guy was the best pitcher in the league, What? 10 - 12 years ago? This guy is no better than the just above average pitchers in the league right now. He may even drop below that if he turns out to be junk now. If the Yankees make any kind of run to try and catch Boston or whomever else might be at the top, it's not going to be because of Clemens, it's going to be because of the other pitchers finally stepping up and most of all their high buck hitters.

Ok, for all you stat guys. I don't care about his stats two seasons ago. He is not the Lord Savior himself coming to ptich for the slumping Yankees. He is Roger Clemens past his prime and certainly not worth 28 million a season, and this one a shortened one. He is NOT the reason they are going to come back in the East which they won't, for all you stat boys you know it only happend like once before in the history of the game. Being down as many games as they are and coming back to take the division. I don't hate Roger Clemens at all nor do I hate the Yankees like most people. I just think all the press this is getting is ridiculous. As I said, if the Yankees make a miracle comeback, it's because it was a team effort not because Past his prime Roger came back on June 9!!! THAT'S A FACT, STAT BOYS!

You're damn right-- I personally am soooo sick and tired of turning on ESPN and seeing nothing but the effing Yankees, effing Roger, and the effing Red Sox. You'd think there were only two effing teams in baseball!! If the brewers or Padres were 10 or 12 ceffing games out of first, would they be the effing lead story on baseball tonight, every effing night? HARDLY!! I live in San Dieog and our west coastteams get virtually NO effing coverage. When Trevor Hoffman broke the saves record last year, effing ESPN (Should be YSPN-- Yankees sports network) didn't show one second of it until 11pm that evening. The Yankees are overpaid brats who can hardly get out of the clubhouse on their own ENUFF!!

Ahmen! well, finally, someone said it besides me. Clemens was good a long time ago. He couldn't even put up good numbers in the weaker NL. He is not going to succeed in the stacked AL East. The yankees only hope is to trade for everyone the the Red Sox. Then, they might string some wins together. I don't understand Clemens. He is Super Rich, but he decides to sign for the big bucks anyway. He could have gone to Boston for less money, maybe have been the fifth starter, and get that long awaited one win, to give him the all time Boston wins record. He is a SELL OUT! Clemens should have stayed retired when he was one top, now, he will be remembered by the younger baseball fans as the bust he will turn out to be following this season.

p.s. For all you "Stats" people that try to say he had good stats last season, he only pitched less than half a season. Plus, he doesn't show up when he isn't pitching, now thats what I call a team leader!

I think it is a big whoop, as you put it, when a 44 year old man with 348 career wins joins the Yankees in mid season to try and help them get to the playoffs. Not only was he one of the best pitchers 10 or 12 years ago, he was one of the best last year with an ERA of 2.30, WHIP 1.13 and hitters hitting only a little over .200 against him. I believe there are many out there that will enjoy seeing Clemens come back, including me, and I am a Dodger fan. If you can look beyond your own likes and dislikes you should see why his return is generating interest and why it is good for baseball.

your kidding me right ?? i agree with you Clemens is past his prime and it is time to hang up the spikes and wait the required 5 years for his inevitable induction in the Hall of Fame. But,
Clemens thru for the past 10 or 12 years ??
the guy won the cy young award in 2004 and was third in voting in 2005, this doesn't sound like a pitcher that is washed up.
just since 2000 he has won 88 games,i would like to stack that up to some of these other/younger hurlers since 2000.
(OK CC Sabathia has won 90 games since 2000, but i think that is pretty good company)
the big whoop is that Clemens is a lock for the Hall of Fame playing for the storied Yankees, for one more go around the American league. i don't know about you but when he comes to my city (Baltimore) and pitches for the final time i will stand and applaud him.
i feel 24 years performing at the major league level deserves some sort of applause, don't you ??

Another body! That's it,just another body, with our pitchers going down with injurys it helps! yeah he's old,but right now he can pitch better then some of the young guys out there,And i'm sure he can hold a 3-1 lead,,which i might add the MOOOOOSE blew in the ALC's with the tigers! Sorry yank fans Moose Sux! Never should have resigned him,,should have signed Lilly, That's it! just another Body!!

10 - 12 years ago? Are you really that clueless? He won the Cy Young Award in 2004. There has only been 2 seasons played since then. But, I agree, Clemens won't be the reason. It will be because of the rest of the pitching staff.

Go figure he would make his first comeback start against a National League opponent. I give him that. That he can be really dominant in the National League. American League hitters just seem to tag him for some runs. I mean he gave up 3 so far against a struggling Pittsburgh team.

The big whoop is that he is a Yankee Hero! This has been a spirit crushing season for NY fans thus far. We needed some old skool (with a K!) talent on the mound, a well seasoned professional to raise spirits and bring out the best in the pinstripes. The Rocket would be just that.

btw: It is being televised. I'm watching it on YES.

Yes, Clemens Blows. He's Old, Overrated, And highly Self-centered.

I agree with you. If the Yankees can make a run for the top, it will be because of their whole rotation and team, not because of Clemens.
