They seem to be on the same "circuit" as your penis and are made out of the same material (erectile tissue). You probably can't arouse yourself by playing with your own nipples any more than you tickle yourself. In any case, most "sex" is in the mind, not the gonads. It isn't what is being done, it's who is doing it, how and why. Most guys get an erection when someone else is playing with their nipples or sucking on them. Whether they can have an orgasm as a result depends on the guy, I imagine. Some guys ejaculate just by having their penis touched, so I imagine they would be able to have an orgasm just from having their nipples played with.

By the way, men have nipples because in the embryonic stage we're all physically female, then grow into all male or all female. Nipples are just leftovers from that stage. And they feel good in women to encourage mothers to nurse their babies (humans aren't wired with instincts the way other animals are and need some incentives to do what comes naturally in other animals).

Because when humans form in the embryo they all begin as female. It isn't until the Y chromosome is activated that the embryo becomes male. The nipples are still there because there is no need to get rid of them after this event. (Or, if I am wrong about when the nipples form...) Then because nipple formation is coded for by a gene that is turned on during some point in embryo development. The only way for there NOT to be nipple formation, is if there was some gene on the Y chromosome which would result in a protein to cancel/inhibit the protein formation coded for by another gene leading to nipple formation. There is no reason for the body to spend all of the energy creating these proteins just to inhibit something that isn't harmful to the male. If it doesn't harm them why spend the energy to get rid of it?

My fiance` and my ex boyfriend both have very sensitive nipples and they would get turned on when I play with them with my tongue but neither of them would have an orgasm from it but it does excite them. So to answer your question no its not there for nothing. But the sensitivity to touch varies between men.

some men really like having their nipples touched, but some don't. it's personal preference. erection perhaps, but not orgasm.

well at least you should .... the male region around the nipples has FAR more nerves surrounding it than women do.
