Stop thinking race - Start thinking class

They needed an new under class - The things the English did to the Irish and Scots were just as bad if not worse than what has happened to the blacks -

It is the ideology of a class system of a persons worth determined by economic value that allows slavery -

The upper class have used whoever they could get their hands on - Black Jew Polish Irish Scots etc etc

Identify the power structures and thought patterns and then you will see the justifications remain static in relation to the under class - Race has nothing to do with it - The propaganda against whoever remains the same

They just insert the right identifying marks for the new underclass - Think of all the names many of the races were called when they were doing things that the upper class would not and the middle class were expected to administer

It suit only one type of person that Hate my neighbour based on race - Who would that be -

Caciansf's is right on the money. The dutch slave traders could not have operated successfully without the full assistance of the African people and the African government, who were more than happy to allow their own people to be sold into slavery and who also profited from the slave trade.

If Africans themselves didn't care enough about their own people to not allow them to be sold into slavery...then honestly...why should we feel bad about the enslavement of Africans a couple hundred years and several generations after the fact?

PS: You forgot to mention the Middle East...They were big on enslaving Africans too.

Fact is, if you're going to sell your own people into slavery...people will buy them.

Any rational person looking to Africa today will surely see massive oppression and savagery unrivaled in the history of the world. The practice of keeping slaves reaches far back in history and came about as the result of taking prisoners in wartime. You see this in every society in the world with primitive roots. African tribal conflicts have been going on for as long as people have existed on that continent and Africans were the first to enslave other Africans.

The Slave Trade was a world-wide phenomenon not strictly confined to the American colonies (later USA) and Europe, and while mainly Africans, not all slaves were black people. Indian tribes in pre-colonial America took slaves. In ancient Egypt Jews had been slaves. But the biggest slave trader in the world was never the USA but England. The USA was one of the last nations on earth to abolish slavery with the exception of Africa where the practice of taking slaves continued. Slave Traders would typically not raid villages for slaves (that's just something you see in the movies). African slaves were commodities and were sold by African tribal governments to the slave traders. As you can well imagine, the tribes did not sell their best slaves; they kept them to do work at home. This is why the slaves taken to South America and the Carribean by Spain (giving birth to the Mestizo) and to what is now the USA by England, and later by the USA itself were looked down upon even by native Africans. It has only been through a process of selective historical reference that the true origins of slavery in America have been lost in the dust of history.
