Is the very act of prayer a sort of therapy in itself; putting one's thoughts/worries into some sort of managable order.

Yes. Prayer can be a form of meditation. It doesn't hurt to start out "hello - I don't know Who I'm praying to, but this is my prayer."
It can be very centering if done daily, in the same form, around the same time. Get up and say a prayer of thanks for morning and renewal, and hope that your life will always be blessed by growth.
In the evening take a deep breath and give thanks for safety and rest, and leave your worries behind.
You don't have to know who you're talking to or even be sure anyone is there. It still feels nice to do it.

It kinda depends on the person. I've prayed by a few non-believers and they asked me to help them learn how to pray and other times people just kinda seem a little confused by what you're doing. I can't actually know if it put their worries into perspective, but I know that praying in public is a great way to witness for the Lord.

It can be. Visualization can bring both focus and insight. It is also good if you can be clear in what you do or don't want so you will ask for the right things from your surrounding and accept the right opportunities.

"God helps those who help themselves"

It can be detrimental if they pray in the hope of some other power solving their problems for them. Both good and not-so-good powers may answer such a call. Usually the not-so-good ones are attracted to people in a messed up situation since they are easy victims. If you are going to pray energetically clean your surroundings and harmonize and clean yourself first.

Well it would be like putting water into a bucket that had no bottom. Who are your prayers going to?
Meditation is a form of self therapy, try that.
Meditation is listening and prayer is communicating!
If you want your prayers answered, you need to have someone to tell them to that can make a difference.
Jesus said ask and you shall receive. He said by your faith you are well. Now if he said to ask the father and pray in private, he meant that you first need to believe in a Father to ask, right?

It is the belief in oneself which is more important... but always remember there is something divine who keep intervening in our lives, to change certain things and i cannot call it manipulative, but yes HE has a larger say in certain things which obviously we do not have the control.

Prayer in itself is like concentrating oneself into something which has a positive outcome, of course we all dont like the negative things in life. But, yes if the Prayer is unconditional, non anticipation, then it gets answered in some way which we may realise it in the hindsight.

Real non-believers don't pray. Who would they pray to ? If a non-believer says that he'll pray for you, he's either not a non-believer, or he's just trying to make you happy.

That's sort of like masturbation, isn't it? Of course it's enjoyable, but what's it in aid of? I suppose the word you are looking for is "meditation"-you don't have to be of a spiritual bent to do that.
