Jason Kidd- Oscar Robertson because he is a triple double threat every night, just like Robertson. Similar size too.
Vince Carter- Dr. J. Carter is known for his smooth moves to the hoop such was the Doctor.
Allen Iverson- Tiny Archibald because of their size and their ability to score
Lebron James- Magic Johnson because of their ability to take over a game offensively, either by finding open teammates or finishin at the rim. Also they are similar in size
Ben Wallace- Dennis Rodman because of their knack for rebounding. Wallace, however, is a better shotblocker.
Shaq- Wilt Chamberlain because of their size, strength, ability to dominate the paint, and scoring ability.
Dwyane Wade- Walt Frazier. Frazier had the ability to score but could dominate defensively as well. For both of these guys, making steals is an artform.
Dwight Howard- Moses Malone. Both of these guys skipped college. Like Malone, Howard is an explosive rebounder. Malone scored more points consistently but Howard is a better shotblocker.
Dirk Nowitzki- Larry Bird. A 7'0 jump shooter like Dirk is hard to guard, especially with a silky smooth jumper like Dirk. Bird was not 7'0 but still was pretty close in size (6') and had amazing range on his jumper. Both can go inside and outside.
Tim Duncan- David Robinson. Both of these guys played for the Spurs but what makes them similar is their calm demeanor in which they dominated the game, rebounding scoring, blocking shots, finding open teammates. Their greatness went un-noticed, until they started to win championships
Tracy McGrady- Bernard King. TMAC is an explosive scorer, like King, and also like King has battled injuries and the inability to lead his team far in the playoffs.
Yao Ming- Arvydas Sabonis. Ming is bigger but no players have received more hype coming overseas than Ming and Sabonis. Sabonis had a couple of good years in the NBA but was unable to play in his prime because of political circumstances. Ming has had good years but has yet to lead his team to a title or deep playoff run.
Carmelo Anthony-Elgin Baylor because of their size and ability to score the basketball.
Kevin Garnett- Bob McAdoo. Like McAdoo, Garnett has not played for a title contender for an extended period of time but has averaged great numbers (points, rebounds, blocks, assists). McAdoo wasnt as good a passer but averaged more points.
Steve Nash- Bob Cousy. Cousy is probably one of the slickest point guards in NBA history, known for his patent behind the back dribble. His court vision was impeccable...well, Steve Nash's court vision is probably 10x better.
Shawn Marion- David Thompson. One of the staples of David Thompson's game was the alley-oop and Shawn Marion has similar leaping ability. Thompson was only 6'4 but had a 48 inch vertical and appeared to be able to walk on Air (skywalker they called him). Marion can JUMP..JUMP HIGH
Amare Stoudemire-Wes Unseld. Unseld was a power player, extremely strong down low and hard to contain. Stoudemire is strong and because of the knee injury has loss his explosive leaping ability but his strength seems to put him over the top against other power forwards.
Ron Artest-Dennis Johnson. Defense defines Artest and it defined the game of Dennis Johnson. Artest is bigger but Johnson at 6'4 did not lack the size to guard the perimeter players of the late 70s and 80s, and he made the all-defensive team 6 times
Kobe Bryant-Michael Jordan. This comparison is hard to make and somewhat controversial but looking at the statistics and their ability to score, usually at will, it must be done. Kobe may be cocky, arrogant, etc but he is an amazing basketball player and his uncanny ability to find a way to win games with his supporting cast and his will/desire to win is similar to Jordan...the only thing Jordan was a much better team player.
Baron Davis- Gary Payton. It is hard to compare Davis to anyone because he is oft-injured but his versatility and passing and scoring resembles that of a younger Gary Payton (before he got old and went to Miami)

"I'm just looking around to see who's gonna finish up second" Larry Bird People may think that to themselves in the NBA, but he actually said it lol. And the best part was he could back up what he was saying.
