Learn to care about something and someone more then you do yourself. Volunteer some time to people who are really needy, so you know what's really important. You won't necessarily become humble, but you might become a genuine caring person. A confident, caring person is far more attractive then vanity.

you need to work on yourself every minute of everyday for the rest of your life. it never stops. examine you attitude with ever thought. it should not be hard to be nice and kind to others. go out of your way to do something good for someone everyday. opening doors for others. saying thank you, please, stop thinking (EYE) and more (YOU). if you develop a mine set of finding ways to help other people in need, you will find yourself becoming less conceited and vain. try spending some time with geriatric patients at your local hospital or the neonatal ward. talk with a few homeless people or visit a children's home. it won't be long until you find out you are a very nice person with allot of love to give and allot of people will find they really love you.

Our attitude usually comes from what we focus on.
For example, if you focus on what you know, then you seem conceited....but if in a conversation, you focus on what you learn, even if you are right and they are wrong, then you will seem less conceited.
For vanity, focus away from how you appear to yourself and others. Focus on what you want, or the task at hand.
The world is complicated, and we can look around us and only see a little. So choose what you look at and change your world.

Be a pretentious fella won't make you happy. Be more natural. I suggest you to socialise more with others frequently. Faking it and people will dislike it, and your so called "hard-effort" of acting will definitely fail you.

Try not always thinking about yourself. Volunteer and help others. When your mind isn't always on you, you won't be so self absorbed.
