im not talking about aiming VERY HIGH, im talking about goals.

we were always told to have a goal, have a dream, and in fact, aim high so when you fail to reach the moon, you at least reach the stars.

but consider the 2 scenarios.

1) a guy aims to "go for jogs once every week, for 1 month", and failed.
2) a guy does not aim at all, and went for a jog, then tells himself "man, you did well!". he ends up being more motivated and confident in himself.

which is better, to dream and aim high, or not to dream and have goals at all?

make your goals SMART..

S= Specific
M= Measureable
A= Attainable
R= Relevant
T= Time oriented

If you make realistic goals that fit all 5 of the above criteria, then you will attain the motivation to move upwards....

I think it depends a great deal on the attitude you have when you fail.

If you stay realistic and realize sometimes you will fail but don't beat yourself up over it, you will be ok.

If you set goals and don't always reach those goals and then become overly critical of yourself and constantly belittle yourself for failing, then you are going to have a serious problem and will end up depressed.

And in some cases if you fail and give up trying altogether, then you are a quitter and will end up with alot of regrets later for not trying again.

When you fail, the thing to do is make up your mind you will do better next time and keep trying. That way you know you did your best ~ sometimes you can't reach all your goals and when that happens, chalk it up to experience and go to the next goal.

It all depends on how you work and how you did. Its about trying your best and be contented. If you didn't tried your best and just dependent on fortune and luck well, that's a problem. And if you did achieved your aims but somehow its not enough well, its part of failing.

Aiming low could be easy to achieve but its a matter of challenge and self-realization. If you knew who you are and what you can do well, go for it. Dream high or dream low, fail or achieve, it all depends on you. The secret is hard work and contention.

I think it is better to aim high and fail...if you do fail to me it just means that you probably set goals that were simply unrealistic. Honestly I think setting realistic goals is the key. If you never set any goals, or your goals or so low that you never really accomplish anything important or move forward with your life, then why does it even matter that you accomplished them? But, if you set realistic goals, goals that you may have to push yourself to achieve but that you know that you reasonably could do without burning yourself out or getting frustrated, etc., then you will have actually accomplished something worthwhile.

It is better to try and fail than to never try at all.

I could not think of any curse worse than being at the end of my life and wondering "what if I had tried something".

Aim High!

Aiming low of course because you are still progressing.

high or low, don't put all your eggs in one basket. have different types of goals, i.e., goals in different areas of your life. then, you are MORE likely (not certain though) to achieve at least some of your goals.
