Inside a house for instance. Does the air temperature make it easier for the cold virus to spread? Common household germs. Is it better to have the air-conditioner on to prevent the growth of germs?

Yes, there is an optimum temperature range for organisms to grow at. Generally this range is anywhere from 15C (59F) to 45C (about 133F). Some organisms called extremeophiles can survive in extreme cold or hot as well.

For the cold virus the optimum temperature is body temperature which is around 37C. The virus can survive in water droplets in the environment for up to 3-4 hours. It is the contact with these water droplets that causes infection. Running the air conditioner will not make much difference although depending on the type it can cause the air to dry or humidify.

Best advice to keep away from a cold is wash your hands frequently.

Some can - and do. Whatever conditions exist there is a germ that will thrive on it. To answer your unasked question, it's unlikely that the germs which will breed on soap are fatally dangerous to humans.

viruses, like the common cold, need a host to propagate, though will remain active/"alive" with no energy source; whereas bacteria will multiply if the environment is optimum. optimum being a food source (such as garbage, dirty sink, ect) and temperature.

different bacterias replicate at different temperatures. most household bacteria prefer temps fr 70-100 F, however other bacteria have evolved to thrive in different temperatures. an example of this is thermophiles that are often found at hot springs and other stressful environments.

on a side note, the polymerases from thermophiles are used for PCR/DNA replication, as the proteins are still functional at high temperatures.

Well alot of them favor temperatures in the range of the human body. 37 degrees C, 98.6 degrees F

I've heard cold viruses like slightly cool temps so they more easily infect the nose and sinus...
