So that it'll run better, scan your computer for viruses.
Using the computer, EXPLORE!!!

Well I would say that the first step would be to familiarize yourself with folder organization. I am a CIS student and often find that people I know have horribly unorganized computers. Many people just save things to where ever the default location is, and sometimes this may need to be changed. I am assuming your hard drive only has one partition, C. If I am correct, then I would suggest creating folders in this drive such as Programs (where you save new programs to) and Installed (where you actually install programs into). Inside of the installed folder you can even go as far as making other folders, such as Installed Programs and Installed Games, if you are the gaming type. It is all up to how you want to do it. But familiarize yourself with these folders and learn how to navigate them.

As far as protection, if you are running XP, make sure your firewall is turned on. (Start --> Control Panel --> Windows Firewall) I would also suggest getting a good virus protection program, I have AVG and find it to be pretty good. And as always just make sure that any emails you open are from trusted sources. Even trusted sources could give you a virus unknowingly, so unless it is something you are expecting to receive, then don't open it. Also, stay off of sites you know are known for viruses. For example, many game crack sites have viruses on them, as well as many many porno sites. Is an enormous set of t i t s really worth a virus which could potentially ruin your hardware? LOL (Yes this happened to me, not by way of porno, but I went to this game crack site and it gave me the mother of all viruses and killed my hard drive. I should have known better....)

As far as running better, I would say to defrag often. Maybe once a month depending on your usage. Also be aware of what you download. Many legit programs install a whole bunch of crap you don't need along with the program, such as toolbars. You can easily control this by looking out for any custom install options when you install the program.

For now, this is all I have. Just basically be aware of what you put on your computer. Educate yourself by going to various technology web sites to stay up on things. If you ever need any help just email me or IM me, I have it enabled on YA. Good luck!!!

Just keep using it and you will learn by trial and error.. But if you are talking about improving a certain area of your computer knowledge, there are tons of courses available online and also in specialised coaching centres.. Find out where one is available in your location.
