I have an emachine that quit working i also have a gateway computer that does work but it does not have enough DDR

Try to detemine if the pc your going to use supports the memory module your trying to install. In other words, it's more of the type of memory you gateway can support.

If the Hynix chip from your old Emachines unit is DDR (and the correct tye- then sure) It's not about brand, but rather about the speed and type of memory.

RAM from a 500Mhz Pentium II won't work in a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo- but if the machines are similar, it may work.

Try it and see, if you install RAM of the wrong type the machine simply won't recognize it, or will refuse to boot until you remove it.
