Venus is the name of the roman love goddess, and mars is the roman name for the god of war... men and women are as different as night and day - or love and war.

it was just a catchphrase to describe how men and women are different, "as if from different planets", not to be taken literally, but the reason the original author (it was a book, by the way) selected those planets is because Venus is the goddess of love (and a woman) and Mars is the god of war (and a man); they just made a natural couple for the purposes of what the author was trying to say. check out the book. it's not that long and an easy read.

Mars was the Roman God of War. Venus was the Roman goddess of love. So war and love are complete opposites, as are men and women. And, stereotypically, Mars (war) is more suited to describe a man's personality, whereas Venus (love) is more suitable to describe a woman's.

Because it is said men and women think differently. So, "Two" different planets of origin. Also, as already stated Venus is love and women are more pacifists. Mars is war and men are more aggressive.
Also, men are not as dumb as women think we are. When this phrase was used. We knew to play it safe and not say women were from Jupiter. Then the women would get mad and say us men were calling them "Fat"!

"Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus (published in May 1992) is a book by [American self-help writer] John Gray."

"The book, as suggested by the title, asserts the notion that men and women are as different as beings from other planets. Gray adopts this metaphor as the central theme of all his books and seminars, likening men and women to the classical Greek god Mars and goddess Venus as ideal types."

Only because women and men have totally different thought processing. Venus is the Goddess of love. Mars is the God of war. It is often difficult for men and women to get ideas across to one another..........because when a woman speaks, she has one picture in her mind......regarding what she is saying.......and, usually, men have a completely different picture of what she is saying in their brain. The same goes for when men speak to women.

The planets names come from the names of ancient Roman gods(goddesses).
Venus is the Goddess of Beauty, Mars is the God of War - still found in names like Martin, also martian arts come from that

Mars is the God of War, so it's a "manly" planet. Venus is the Goddess of Love, so it's a "feminine" planet.
Mars is like men, Venus is like woman.

It's silly, actually.

Because we talk differently. On Mars, when a you ask a man what's wrong it and he says nothing, he usually means nothing. On Venus, when a you ask a woman what's wrong and she says nothing, she usually means either the man has to guess at what's wrong or she'll tell him in three months during their next fight.
