Honey when you are having contractions, you will know it and no one is gonna have to tell you anything. Not sure at first, that happens but long befor the babe comes you will know without doubt.

Best way I can think to describe contractions is like a wave in the ocean, your feel a strong squeezing that gets harder or squeezes tighter and tighter and then releases slowly and stops until the next one begins. Good Luck and God Bless you and your little one

You are probably experiencing braxton-hicks contractions. These are "practice" contractions, just your body's way of getting ready. These can go on for 6 weeks before you acutally do go into labor, but they are not painful.

What do they feel like? You will feel your tummy and lower abdomen tighten a bunch. When they get strong enough, you will be able to put your hand(or someone else's) on your belly and feel it that way too. The "real" ones are long enough to time from beginning to end(when you feel your belly relax), and they become more intense. When they are "real" , you will know, I promise.

I always worried about not being able to tell the difference, but after a couple of hours, I KNEW. Lol.

Once you can time them, and they become increasingly uncomfortable or painful,...call your doctor asap.

Good luck sweetie,...the best days of your life, are upon you!!!

Honey went you are in labor you will KNOW it! You will not have to ask anyone to be sure . Labor real Labor is like no pain you have ever had before! I would say its like period cramps (bad ones) times one thousand! You stomack will feel like it is tighting up. braxton hicks contractions are irregelar where as real contractions come in regular spaces of time. But no one except your doc. can tell you if you are in labor if you are worried you should call the doc. are go in for a check-up. Dont worry if its just braxton hicks doctors see people everyday who think they are in labor and they arent. I went through that with my first. It was mostly my nerves I was wondering like you if I would be able to know the differance. But now I can tell you from experance you will KNOW! best of luck with your new add.!!!!

Braxton Hicks Contractions ["false" contractions which can occur at any point in your pregnancy, your body "practicing" uteran contractions] tend to feel like cramping, and can fluster a new mommy. But "REAL" contractions feel more like you're being kicked in the stomach by a mule!!! I know it's hard to hear when you have never felt it before and it is such an important thing... But you WILL KNOW when you have contractions.

I used the Bradley method, which prevents the uterus from cramping. My contractions felt like a dull ache that comes and goes. It is like the pain you get when you go to the dentist and you hold your mouth open wide for a long time. It felt totally different from a cramp. I have had four kids.

To me it was like having a very severe period cramp, and gas pain all at the same time. I was scared about this when I was expecting my daughter, and I kept on asking everyone what it felt like.

It feels like your body is trying to squeeze your soul out through your abdomen and bottom. Everyone has a different threshold for pain though.

Okay the light ones, just feel like when you get your menzy's each month. But, sometimes, there all over the whole bottom area of your tummy.. Then when you begin getting the stronger one's dont fight them, whatever you do, because these strong one's also help you to dialate, which is what you need to do to give birth, you must be dialated to a 10 centemeter's! If I were you , I wouldn't have your "Beau" down there during this procedure, for the mere fact they say: That once a man's gone through the whole delivery experience, and he's seen the actual baby coming out from down below, they either dont think the same way towards their woman again, and even refrain from having sex, with their woman for awhile, because they've seen her dialate 10 centemeters!! So, this is quite an experience for a man to witness, seeing their woman get so BIG, down there!!! If half of them only knew that our bodies are built to go back to its original size they wouldn't FREAK out so bad, you know!!! Then you have a chosen few who dont feel this way, they think their woman is "God's Gift" to the reproduction life!!! They will be known to just fall in love with their woman all over again!! Because of seeing them go through so much with their bodies, and for their baby!!! They have a tendecy to be soooo fascinated by us women, those who are meloncholy about the whole experience, and have watched their own child come through the birthing canal, that is!! Okay, so once your getting the contraction's you can either fight them and have a harder time of it, or just know this is going to pass and you will get to sleep in between, and you will want to in between contraction's when they begin to get stronger and more painful.. See our bodies are preparing to give birth to a 5-10 pound living being, so it has to contract to get slowly ready itself for this procedure to take place!! That's what all of the contractions are all about !! Some women have it really easy and other's dont have it so easy!! I myself have experienced both!! With my first daughter, I walked just about eveywhere, because I heard that getting alot of walking in will lighten your labor! Well, they were definately correct about this, my dear!! Because, I was terrified to have her!! But when I did finally go into labor it was 2 & 1/2 weeks early, and I wasn't ready, yet at all !! I kept telling my girlfriend who I was spending the night with, that she needed to quit timing me, that it wasn't time yet, I wasn't due for 2 & 1/2 more weeks!! She was making me so nervous!! But being that she was a medical assistant, she knew just what to do in these types of situation's, right!! Well, she ended up having to go to work, in the am, so I went to my Mother's house, that's when my whole family began making an even bigger deal out of this whole "Christy's going to have her baby today!! Thing!!" And boy oh, boy was I ever upset, that they were all talking about this in this mannor!! I just assumed they were going to tell me it was false labor and I was going to go home!!! Well, my Mom finally talked me into going to the doctor and I had her an hour after I got to the hospitol!! Kid you not!! All total I was in labor for 6 hours with my oldest daughter, and never so much as "Grunted" or "Moaned" whatsoever!! I was more scared of reality sinking in, that I was going to be a mother!! That thought just terrified me, when I was only 18 years of age when I had her!! I was very young!! Than with the other 3 children, I labored for 12 hours with both of my boys! And my youngest daughter I labored for 10 hours! So the last three children weren't as easy as my first was!! I walked with all of my children too!! Just not as much with the youngest three!! So, I reckon this made a big difference, not walking as much with them... Just be expecting alot of cramping, and light at first, then a gradual harder and harder the closer you get to dialating to 10 centemeters!! You'll do just fine hun!! You'll see!! Just pray to God above that you will have an easy labor, and this baby wont have any types of complications of any sorts for you!! And as far as your "Beau" in concerned, you can have him to stay up by your head the whole time, if they allow them in the room at all in England, if they do, just to play it safe, you might want him to stay up by your head to confort you, and allow him to cut the babies embellical cord, even then he wont see what's going on down there, because he'll be reaching over your tummy area to cut it!! With all of the doctor's in the way, he still wont get to see much and besides, the baby will already be out, so you also will be starting to contract down back to size after the placenta comes out, and this will cause a bit of pain but nothing compared too the baby coming out!! And you may not have a hard time with that at all, either, so think positive and tell yourself your going to have it easy, and you will... Just go in thinking positive, and uplifting that you soon will be past all of this, too!! And at home enjoying your new baby!! I will want to encourage you to nurse!! I did with all 4 of my children, and this process will pull your tummy back to its old size, really quick, and it also pulls your cervix back to its old size as well, plus it helps to build your baby's ammune system to be strong, so that he/she doesn't get too sick in thier young years, you know!! Nursing is so beneficial for the baby & you!! Plus, you are going to be so tired when you first come home from the hospitol, so if you nurse you wont have to get up and warm bottles, and clean them, NONE OF THAT, when you nurse..... If you can get your "Beau" to bring the baby to your bed whenever he/she needs to feed then you can rest the whole time, even when you are nursing!! Its so Wonderful when your husband, or boyfriend helps us women!! My first husband used to bring the babies to bed to me, so I could rest, he was just a "Wonderful" father, as far as helping me to get my sleep after having my oldest two, children!! Then our church made pre-made dinners for our whole family so we could all get our rest.. We really enjoyed that!! They would eafch alternate bringing pre-made dinners to our house, and didn't stay but long enough to take a peak at the baby and leave the dinner's in the refridgerator, than they'd simply leave!! How nice that was!! We really had it pretty easy with the first 2 oldest one's!!! So I hope and pray you will too hun! I'll say a prayer for you, okay.. Just dont be afraid, remember God is going in that delivery room with you , and He is watching over you & your baby!! Smile!! And Congratulations to you & yours, hun!!!P.S. I had my oldest son on July 23rd!! Isn't that sweet!! July babies are so mellow!! I promise you this!!
