I bought the fish yesterday evening and the guy said it should be enough oxygen for 12 hours. I will be able to get it to my take by like 11 am. Will the air in the bag last til then or should I open it so it can get some air?

Take your fish back to the store. Your new tank is no where near ready to house a fish.

Adding salt and water to a tank does not make a salt tank.

Depending on the fish and size would depend on how long it can stay in the bag. Most fish can survive in the bag for many hours. Opening the bag does not give the fish air. The air pocket in the bag and shaking the bag gently will add oxygen fromt he trapped air into the water.

Unfortunately you are running out of time for your fish. Your new tank will more than likely kill your fish. Not only will the PH not be high enough and the shock of adding him will kill him, there is no bacteria built up yet. If these two things don't finish him off, the ammonia spikes surely will or even possiably ich.

If you do not know what you are doing or the volume of water in the bag, DO NOT ADD peroxide. This is a tricky thing for adding oxygen to the bag.

Also, most fish stores run their tanks especially salt thru UV Sterilizers. It is rare that your fish will get ich or other parasites when coming home. Always check to be sure and only buy fish where the water runs thru UV's. No worries on unwanted guests that way. The drip is a good idea however you should not get rid of the store's water since it is the only thing that will have bacteria for your fish in it. Add it to your tank.

Opening the bag won't really work, you have to put the air into the water. Splashing would work, if it wasn't a bag (that will stress out your fish far too much.)

You can take a straw, open your mouth to get air, and then use the straw to blow some into the bag. (Don't inhale and exhale from your lungs, then you're just putting carbon dioxide into the water - that doesn't help.)
Just use the air in your mouth - no, it's not much, but doing that a few times and closing the bag again should help the fish last a little longer.)

Before you put the fish in the tank, do set the bag in the water for a while so the temperatures can equalize. Otherwise you may shock your fish and still kill it.

Opening the bag won't help. Keep the fish in a dark quiet place to minimize stress and when you get it home pour the bag contents into a 1 or 2 gallon container and begin a slow drip of water from the tank into the container. The operative word here is SLOW. When the container has doubled it's water volume remove most of the water and continue the SLOW drip. Repeat this process until the the water is almost completely tank water,(3 or 4 times). Then net the fish and put it in the tank.(This avoids putting possible disease containing water in your nice clean tank.) It is not a substitute for quarantining, but it's the next best thing. Good luck. I hope this works out for you.-----PeeTee P.S. the acclimation process should take at least 2 hours and 3 or 4 would be better. This method is preferred because it keeps your pet in constantly improving conditions.

Open the bag and add just a few drops of hydrogen peroxide. That will add a little oxygen to the water. h2o2 there is twice the oxygen in hydrogen peroxide as water. Its ok and safe. Don't put in more than 3 or 4 drops. Get the fish to the tank pronto.

You should have opened it up and put them in the tank after 30 minutes. The water in the bag needs to match the water in the tank, only takes a few minutes.

Why did you buy SW fish with no place to put them?

If you just cycled your tank they will die in a few days. The amonia, from the fish poop, will kill them.

Take them back to the store and get your money back, fish can live in a bag for 24hours, that's how the ship them to you through the internet.
