When i hit the brakes, sometimes it dies. its a manual transmission. and it's like the battery is completley disconnected. nothing works, but the cables are secure. eventually it is back to normal. could it be the altanartor?

it could be wiring [brake circuit] take you alt. to advance or autozone,ect.,and they will check for free before buying a new 1, they might be able to diagnose your problem too

Get the voltage checked. Could be some messed up electronics. I had similar problems with a throttle positioning sensor. A mechanic shop can determine what's not getting the right voltage. And if that is the problem go to the dealer, not like NAPA or AutoZone, and get a replacement part. You can't trust 3rd party electronics all the time.

First see the dealership service department to have the vehicle hooked up to the scan tool or you can get an OBD II scan tool avaible at an auto parts store to track down the problem.

not much detail in your question. Check the cable connections at the engine block and the starter.
