We live in Spain and found a dead gecko in our pool. It's bright green with a bit of blue, and absolutely collosal so both hubs and kids would like to preserve it. However, we have never done anything like this, so if you have any tips, please help us out!!

As summer has finally arrived here, and the temperature is about 28 C in the daytime, we reckoned we did not have a lot of time.... No way was I going to put it in my freezer, so after checking again on the internet, we decided to put it in a big pickling jar with alcohol. Hopefully this will do the trick....

Yes, I know it is kind of gross, but it is a beautiful and fascinating animal and nobody's fault it ended up in the pool.

Thanks everybody for your answers!

If I found that thing in my pool i would probably report it to the animmal police because it sounds like you have a weird tipe of gecko if its really big. but most the time thats probably a large lizard if its truly BIG. Or maybe its sun bathing if its on the top of the water lizards and geckos do lay out for sun. but if its at the bottom of the pool its probably not sun bathing.

You would have to remove the internal organs and dry him out before stuffing him!! The best option is to get some plaster and make a mould.

Why would you? Dig a hole and put it in the ground. If you want to see one go to the Zoo.
