There certainly is a strong obligation teachers and coaches are have when selecting students for individual greatness awards. Unbiased and impartial selections are made to ensure students continue to strive for excellence. On occasion a student is overlooked or an athlete has gone unrecognized, due to a teachers lack of consideration for achievement and confuses it with the student's parents who were the highest contributors to the school or a coaches inexperience to evaluate the players correctly. The parents are the ones who feel the most ripped off. Those awards are symbols we parents place on a mantels that through the years serve as a constant reminder of our children's greatest achievements. So I say YES ask that principal why your son was overlooked.

Awards? Well, you have to know that not everyone gets awards. Talk to his teacher, if the work comes easy to him then maybe the teacher gave a struggling student that recently had a breakthrough the award because they had a harder time with it and had to overcome a lot of boundaries, I wouldn't go and talk to the principal about it! Just talk to the teacher, you'd be surprised what you'd find out! Good Luck!

Sure, awards in academics should be given to all students who have done extremely well, no exceptions should be made. There is no MVP awards in academics is there? Hope your kid continues to do well in academics and gets lots of awards.

No. Every time someone does something great does not mean that they will get rewarded. Bygoing to the principal, you are teaching your sun that you have to be noticed for doing something good. Teach him to always try his best for himeslf, not for an award.

unless someone obviously less qualified than your son (this means you've seen the kid's report card yourself!) got the award, suck it up and let it go. the awards aren't important in the long run anyways.
