Planet Earth?
The first recognized one would be Kepler, although some people would prefer Copernicus or some ancient Greek guy before Aristotle.

Problem is that no one believed any of the pre-Aristotle discoveries because Aristotle sounded so convincing and he decreed that Eartth was the centre of the Universe and other things were "planets" in orbit around Earth (including the Sun).

This was the accepted dogma even during Galileo's trial.

However, with time, it was recognised that Earth was a planet and the 'nail in the coffin' came with Newton's theory of universal gravitation which explained the elliptical orbits proposed by Kepler.

So, before Kepler, Earth was not a planet.

discovered the earth? Or discovered/mapped the earth? I think your confussed..think about the question.....discovered the earth implies we "arrived" here when the fossile record clearly says we evolved here///from..yup the previous answer was right...the seas...actually we were urea(piss) its the first acid ever formed on earth and can be recreated in the lab using in electricity as a "lightning bolt" the mechanism thought to have created ureaic acid....hope that helps

Well, thats a tricky question, because if time travel is ever possible, it might be someone from the future who discovered the earth.
Otherwise, if you are talking about People exclusively, I think it would be Adam and Eve when they were kicked out of Eden and landed in the cold hard dirt of earth.

Don`t let these people toy with you Gunther !

Orville Flubb , age 73 , a retired chicken catcher from Canton Ohio is generally accepted as the discoverer of our planet in November of 1962 .

Waking one afternoon in an alley from a 3 day LSD induced coma , he got up , looked around , and moaned "where on Earth am I ?"

These five little words sent shock waves around the entire planet , prompting people to ask themselves "what is an "Earth??" and "are we really on "Earth" ??"

In later years , astronomers and scientists proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that we are all , in fact , here on Earth .

Nothing more was heard from Orville since his discovery , and he just faded into obscurity . Orville died on July 27th , 1986 when his outhouse seat collapsed while he was on it , drowning him in a thick pool of ......... (well , you get the picture) .

In January of 2003 , a 27 foot bronze statue of Orville Flubb was erected in Boise , Idaho`s Town Square . Unfortunately , in August of that same year , the tidal wave knocked it down and washed it away , never to be seen again .

You mean who was the first explorer. We do not really know since we had many explorers to determine the shape of the Earth.. But the first man who was created on earth would be the one to explore it.
