there are so many "undercover brothers"? I ask this because there was a time when AIDS was considered a "homosexual" disease, and that people that wanted a taste from both fountains could have possible made it a "anybody can get it" disease. But I want to mention the "undercover brother" because the other night I was bored and I was clicking on 360 pages to see if i can get around and back to the same person (you know a real 360 - this actually did happen by the way....) i noticed so many black men had 360's and all of their friends were men-AND they didnt really come out and say they were gay, some did but very few. On top of it some of these men really appeared to have the "thuggish look" the comments the other men left made it obvious they were gay. Do you think that this is why? or do you think society is just trying to make it look that way? Dont call me a racist I am 1/2 african american myself sooo...i just would like opinions (one's that are not ignorant-thank you)

PS: why are there so many "undercover brothers" anyway? Why are they not open about their sexuality?

I think this is a possible reason for the rapid spread of AIDS in the black community, but surely not the only reason. I think that being a homosexual male is considered taboo among blacks (both men and women). I've heard that in Haiti and Jamaica that they kill people when they find out they are gay.
This being "undercover brothers" and the fact that many balcks are having unprotected sex, especially at such young ages, and with multiple partners is helping the disease along. I don't think the black community is educated enough about STD's, and many think that it will never happen to them. The other thing is that they might not realize they have the disease, and give it to others, who also don't know, and don't get check-ups, and the cycle continues.
If we as people were equally educated, I think it might alleviate some of the spread of this disease and the suffering it brings to our families and friends who have to watch as they die from an incurable disease.

Homosexuality within the black community has a far greater stigma than within the white community. The incidence of HIV infection is increasing among women of all races.... Not just within the black community. And I believe the stats show it is really due to IV drug use... It is also hitting the Hispanic community at a much greater rate.... Do some research there is a great deal of information on the web... God bless****

First of all I mean no disrespect to any one, one of my good friends has aids and he is straight and white. And I have many black friends, and I love them all dearly. Aids is an any person/any race and an any sexual orientation disease, it is an equal opportunity disease that any person can get
That is some thing that we all must face and do some thing about. That is the only way that we are ever going to get a handle on this disease, and finally be able to stop it. Unless they come up with a cure, to stop it compleatly.
There are black men that are on the down low, or the undercover black men as you call them. From what I understand they call it being on the down low. And some are going to get aids, just as whites/Hispanic/Asian etc...men will do. However, any one can get aids, as it is an any one diseases. Women are very suseptible to getting aids as well, and that is why men need to be honest with both them selves as well as with their woman. It isn't fair for a man to be on the down low, and then go home to a wife.
I think a lot of black men who are on the down low, do not want others to know that they are gay, or Bi since it would blow their macho/tough guy image that they feel they need to have, most people expect from them to be tough macho brothers and not gay. So that they are hiding this from their loved one/wives and family members. This is wrong to do for any one who is gay to to others, as that is how so many women are becoming infected. It needs to stop.
It is hard for some people to come out and just be who they are, they are afraid that they will not be excepted for who they are. Let's face facts people are not always very kind to gay people, and that is wrong to treat any one badly because of sexual perferance. But that is also wrong to do to the women that they are with, women are getting aids from these men as are the babies that these women are having.
Not only a African American men are doing this so are many Hispanic men and we know that there are also whites who are gay who don't want to admit that they are gay either. Since they have a macho attitude going on, that is what they want to present to the world and those who love and know them.
I wouldn't call you ignorant, you are only asking a question and that is all. So there is no need to think like that at all.
I think if we as people just learn to except that there are gay people, most don't want problems of any kind. They just want to live their lives like every one else does. We need to just understand that, most are good people who are loving and good people. I have friends who are gay, and I couldn't ask for a nicer group of people to have as friends. They don't want to hurt any one, they just want to be excepted for who they are so that they can live their lives.
If there were not so many people who were jugemental of gays, all would come out and no one would be getting infected by accident. All would be out in the open, and what would be there to hide. Live and let live, it is going to be that way any way weather people like it or not.

Communal pressure is probably strict on the undercover brothers.
I don't know if it's "cool" to be gay.
