in the same way that heterosexuals react to physical displays of affection directed toward them by gays, do similar acts of affection (eg a guy handholding/ hugging/ kissing a lesbian) create a cold, nonplussed or even repulsive reaction?

it depends who it is. obviously with a close male friend i'd find it acceptable. if it was an over friendly stranger or a friend of a friend at a bar i wouldnt like it. even if it was just a hug, i would feel like my personal space was violated.

My wife is lesbian, and her best friends are male. She's very small and pretty, with soft skin. Her friends are always picking her up, giving her side hugs, kissing and rubbing her shaved head, etc. If she's repulsed by male touch, I think they'd have known by now, especially since she's a martial arts instructor. :-)

Other lesbians I know are a bit less open to male touch, but aren't at all averse to a friendly pat on the back or a hug. They can give men hugs and pats on the back, too. Kissing leads to something for most women, and lesbians don't want to go down that path with men.

And I'm a 50/50 bi who loves to give and receive all kinds of friendly touch.

No! Straight men act that way because of their own hang up about gay's. Gay people are a little more open minded and are aware that everyone that they come in contact with is not trying to "change" them or anything like that. It's called insecurity. If you are secure in your sexuality no matter what it is...then you wouldnt care as long as its not some weirdo stranger.

Some people no matter their sexual preference are adverse to being touched. Some people no matter what their sexual preference love being touched. Why can't we just understand that some people are just like us, some people are just like others and some people are completely different then everyone else.

BTW, how I react to public displays of affection by anyone depends of the level of public affection. It's called "Having Manners"!

LOL! Wasn't there a test done where straight men experienced arousal when they watched boy on boy sex?
