I have a 1957 Chevy Bel Air with the original 283 V8 (rebuilt). What weight of oil would be best? 30....20/50....or another weight? Thank you.

Try senthetic oil because it's an older engine.

Like someone said, before mult-weight oils, they used 30 wt oil.

Is this a fresh rebuild? Or has some miles on it. If fresh, ask the mechanic who did the engine...... if it was yourself..... you could ask a parts guy (not at Autozone, but like at a local mom and pop shop....yes, getting rare).

I've heard to use the same oil you plan to run in it when you break in an engine. A 5w-30 or 10w-30 should be fine.

Penzoil 10W-30.

I don't recommend synthetic if you have the original petrolium based rubber gaskets on the engine. They will dry out and shrink causing oil leaks.

Back in "57" , they used 30 weight. But you can also go with 10/W40.

10-W30, is best for this car, make sure you cahnge it regularly.

Dont use synthitics, they are not going to do anything but drain your wallet.
