Man, some people need to do some research and stop looking like idiots. If you know anything about baseball you would know that ANY swing at a ball regardless of where it ends up afterwards, is a strike.

If you swing at a pitch and it hits you in the head and kills you, it's still a strike. If you are dumb enough to swing at a pitch at your head, you should be awarded the strike. I have personally seen Lance Berkman swing at a pitch that hit him in the arm and though he threw a fit, it was rightfully a strike.

MLB Rule 2.00, Definition Of Terms:

A STRIKE is a legal pitch when so called by the umpire, which --
(e) Touches the batter as he strikes at it;
(f) Touches the batter in flight in the strike zone.

There's seven listed items, but these are the two germane to the question.

You swing -- it's a strike.

I can't believe how many of you have given the wrong answer! If you swing and miss but the ball hits you it's a strike. If it's a check swing then you take first base. If the batter swings and tips the ball and it hits him then it's a strike.

If a player swings at a pitch, it is a strike regardless of whether or not it hits the batter.

a full swing is called a strike
if it is strike 3 it counts as a dropped 3rd strike and batter can try beat the throw to first
this happened while i was playing once

It is a strike. The batter attempted to strike the ball. So, the batter is not allowed first base.

Lots of mis-information in above answers.

A strike is charged ANYTIME a batter makes an attempt to hit the ball.

The ball becomes dead when it hits the batter.

In answer to your question, this would be a dead ball, strike, out if strike three.

My son experienced this first hand in his little leauge game. Its a strike. You do not have to move out of the way of the ball but you cannot move into the path. Ok, yes some are going to say they do it in the majors. However, they do it in such a way to make it look as if they are trying to move out of the way. The assumption is the swinging caused you to be hit by the ball.

It is a strike. I would work on this batters strike zone. You can't be swinging at balls.
