The belt might be tracking wrong.

You may have a bad pulley.

Or the belt tension is to loose.

that is your serpentine or drive belt. to get it replaced should not cost too much money, $70 in U.S. If it is older and deteriorated it will generally squeal when it gets wet and should be replaced. Also make sure they you or your mechanic checks the tensioner assembly on the drive belt when you replace it. This keeps the proper tension on the belt. You also have a timing belt inside of the engine just under the timing cover (would be just behind your drive belt.) your timing belt is not exposed and should be replaced every 60 thousand miles or so. The timing belt replacement will be more money probably $600 U.S. however if it breaks it will cause irreversable internal engine damage and the will render the engine no longer usable. Good luck. Maintenance is the key.

check the idler pulley. It may be going out. The bearings are turned at high speed and when they go out which is usually on the freeway or in the middle of nowhere. take a little wd40 and spray it only on the middle of the pulley where it bolts on. Don't get it on your belts. try to do this when it is running. If the noise goes away for a minute replace the pulley.

Most likely you have a mis-aligned pulley or a bad belt tensioner or idler pulley causing your problem. Any good dealer or independent shop should be able to check this out for you quite easily and correct the problem for you.

if the belts are too tight or too loose, they'll still squeal. if that doesn't work, try some belt dressing - or look to see if maybe your water pump or other pulley bearings have gone bad. try using a lubricant (shampoo works) on one belt at a time to figure out which one is the exact culprit. good luck.

Maybe it's not the belt, but the brakes?

Or bad pulley bearings. (idler, alternator, A/C, ...)

The belt is not tight enough and is slipping, causing the noise.
