...after the historical broadcasting of "Neil Armstrong on the moon"?

This sounds bizarre I know, but U.S.S.R. was really the first country to send a satellite in space (1957, spoutnik) and the first to land on the moon (1966).

Armstrong apparently helped to stop the cold war, which was still hot at that time. In any case, why didn't we see a cat fight between USSR and USA astronauts and flags torn to pieces, and helmets fly when Armstrong landed on the moon?

USSR broke (in 1991) in the component republics (now no longer Soviet). This has nothing to do with Neil Armstrong. The Cold War was about to explode into the Third World War during the Korean war (1950-1953) and later during the Cuban Missile Crisis (1962).

The USSR obtained the first soft landing on the Moon (Luna9, in January 1966), but this was without human crew (the mission was completely automatic). The other missions in the Luna series were also unmanned

The technology of the day permitted radar tracking of the spacecrafts, as well as tracking their radio transmissions; given the tense relations during the Cold War, it is safe to assume that if one of the parties lied with respect to the Moon missions, the other party would be very prompt in unveiling the hoax.

First, although the USSR sent unmanned probes to the moon, there was never a manned Soviet missionto the moon.

As for whether the lunar landing helped to end the cold war--it did not; that did not come until 20 years later with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the USSR.

But--as for the lack of any "cat-fights" as you term it--that was never an issue--on either side. However shollow and ugly humans treated each other then--and now--the race for the moon was remarkable for the rrespect and decency displayed not only by the astronauts and cosmonauts, but by virtually the whole of humanity.

And--for that one brief moment in 1969--humanity stopped its fighting, its hate. That's not a feel-good comment--I mean all of it. The battles in Vietnam practally came to a halt. The crime rate for that short time dropped to virtually zero. Everyone--all over the world--stoped all the crap. The lunar landing was above all that--and for once in its history, the human race had the decency to recognize that and respect it.

True the russians made it to the moon first, but they did not land...they crashed. They spent so much money on their military that they could nolonger afford (and still can't afford) to seriously explore space without the aid of someone else. After the moon landing by Niel Armstrong, there seemed to be nothing left to do in the immediate vicinity of space and russia focused more on it's military. Then the money ran out and the European Eastern Block ceceded and now we are here today.

They reorganized and adopted a new name. Today Russia is still a top contender in the space race. They have the only reliable heavy launch vehicle, the international space station would of failed by now if they did not keep it supplied with food and people. The shuttle is a bad joke.

Basically, they wound up with a "falsified" super-power-status acheived through throwing whatever money they had left towards their military complex. Then they just went bankrupt.
