I'm very proud of being an American, but still disturbed about some of our poor choices.

Yes. For all it's problems, percieved or real, this is still the greatest country in the world. There is no other country on all this globe that people desire to come to more.
Recently we traveled to South America to visit my wife's family. Her home country and city are beautiful. I have never seen anything like it. I absolutely loved the place and the people. If I had the means I'd move there tomorrow. Yet, almost every person I talked with while I was there would have given up everything to live in this country.
While working to get my wife's citizenship I saw people from country after country trying to obtain the same prize. Even from places I'd never think of like England.
There is no better place to be from than this country. Is it perfect? No, but we can argue all day why. The truth is we have freedoms, opportunities and protections that virtually no other people in the world have.
In short, yes I am proud to be an American, very proud.

I'm proud of my American heritage-- the constitution we developed to protect freedom of religion and speech and diversity. I'm proud of the Americans now asking questions and protesting the loss of these American rights, working to re-establish a true democracy where the people are heard where people actually take the trouble to become informed and then vote. I'm proud of individual Americans (and some politicians) who risk raising their voices to call for fair elections by honest means, true to the constitution.

I'm proud to live in a Democracy and hope we become one again soon, rather than simply being a Capitalist nation run on bribery, graft, and greed and judged by a Supreme Court named for political purposes.

How can one be "proud" of something over which he has no control? However, legal immigrants who ear citizenship have every right to be proud, and I am very proud of American heroes, past and present, who have made this country as great as it is.

That being said, we should keep America in perspective, vis-a-vis the rest of the world. There are many countries who are better than the USA in many regards.

For example, Europe and Russia have wonderful and on-time passenger rail systems. But for the most part, we destroyed ours back around 1965.

Most of Europe is FAR more open-minded on so-called "moral" issues. Nudity is no big deal (and I've even seen full-frontal nudity on a bus poster in Paris. In Moscow, I've seen topless runway fashion shows on prime-time **broadcast** TV. Abortion is widely accepted for the beneficial remedy that is, and is no biggie in most European countries. One after another, European countries are legalizing same-sex marriage. Puritanism is pretty much non-existent in Europe, but the USA has a 5% infestation of RRR Cult ignoramuses and bigots. Which doesn't sound too bad, until you make the analogy of 5% arsenic in a glass of drinking water.

Ours in a wonderful country in many ways, but there's still a LOT of room for improvement.

I'm proud of being a husband to a spectacular woman who loves me very much. I'm proud of being a father who is loved and respected. I'm proud of being a grandfather to happy, healthy grandchildren. I'm proud of being considered an excellent friend to those close to me.
I'm not proud of being an American. It's not something I've accomplished. I don't think in terms of Nationality. We are all World Citizens.

I'm definitely proud to be an American. I've traveled all over and each and every time was so fortunate to get back on American soil. You don't know how good you got it until you don't have it anymore.

All the way. Red, white, and blue are the colors that I love. Now, I don't have blind loyalty to my country where I believe America is the best and no one else. America is my country. Pride is what comes with your country.
